I never thought of "Daddy Long Legs" as a particularly good film. I always thought it was too long and not worthy of the great Fred Astaire. Since seeing the new DVD, I see I was wrong. Not only is it a fine film but one Fred's best. Certainly the script is way above average and better than any of the ones he did with Ginger Rogers. Of course, I'm not saying that "Daddy Long Legs" is better than "Top Hat" or "Swing Time" - but the script is a lot better - and the charcter Fred plays is a lot more interesting.

"Daddy Long Legs" is bringing me more pleasure than I thought it would and Leslie Caron makes a delightful partner for Fred. My thanks to Ken Barnes and Ava Astaire Mackenzie for such an informative and revealing audio commentary. I recommend this DVD to anyone who likes musicals. It's a winner all the way.
