Hi, Ken! "Suddenly" and "The Man With The Golden Arm" were superb DVD releases - loved your commetaries!

The upcoming "Citizen Kane" DVD seems quite intersing. Could you possibly tell me what film element(s) were used in the transfer? Was it the recently discovered fine-grain nitrate print? Was digital restoration software used to 'clean up' the print before transfering?

I look forward to this and many other Laureate DVDs.

Hello Gordy,

The new Citizen Kane which we recently produced for Universal Pictures(UK) Ltd has been digitally restored from a fine grain 35 mm interpositive supplied by the British Film Institute. This was derived from a duplicate negative
and represented the best elements available outside of the USA.

You will find that it is a massive improvement over the earlier Universal DVD release(1999). This also comes with some tasty extras containing info about the film that has never been on any previous video or DVD release.

The plan at present is to release on June 26th - but if we miss that date, it will be soon after,

Thanks for your kind comments about our previous DVDs. Your support is much appreciated.

Best

This is fantastic news!

For many people, this will be a 'must-have'.

I have the Warner region 1 edition, and frankly, it is too bright, and the digital clean-up went to far; streaks of rain being 'accidentally' erased! Gee whiz. But Ebert's and Bogdanovich's respective commentaries were excellent. And "The Battle Over Citizen Kane" is a superb documentary.

But the extras on this upcoming edition are really something! Finally, Welles' original broadcast of "War Of The Worlds" in its entirety! Holy smokes! This looks like a really thoughtful, high-quality DVD production.

I eagerly look forward to this one!

All the best, Ken!
