Hi folks;
Can anyone recommend a good DVD player that I can hook up to my system? It consists of a Sony TV and a Video cassette recorder. I live in California, USA but everything seem to be in a world market place.

Thanks for visiting our website. If you're a serious DVD collector, you should certainly adjust your system to handle all regions.

Over here in the UK, most DVD players can be rigged for multi region playback either by inserting a code ( supplied by the manufacturer) or by inserting a chip ( which requires the services of a specialist ). But since most U.S. players do not have this facility, you could purchase
a player that some of our American visitors have bought - and are happy with. The Cyberhome CH-DVD Progressive Scan model. It's available from www.amazon.com

I personally don't have this model but I have heard good reports on it - and it does have the facility to play DVDs from anywhere in the world on standard U.S. TV screens.

I took broadcast production classes in college and learned a lot, though remember only a little, about this. The NTSC was the first format made for television back in the 40s, and it was not made with color television in mind as the PAL format was. Each format is said to have its own drawbacks, such as NTSC uses fewer lines in its signal which makes it a less clear picture, and PAL does not use as many frames per second as NTSC. The French had their own system named SECAM. Not sure if that is still around. NTSC is used in North America and Japan.
